If “Little Red Riding Hood” was an advert

Made for a class project by Tomas Nilsson this video depicts the classic story of “Little Red Riding Hood” and, in my opinion is worthy of all your awe. It is all about information and shows just what Little Red Riding Hood would be like if it was told by a corporation. I loved it, I am sure you will too!

MozHunt – The write-up

MozHunt was a community run, community created game for… the community, that is, the Mozilla community.

We recently ran the largest and most successful MozHunt ever (well there have only been 2 but…) and this was the first time the project ran under its new name.

The project started in Easter when I came up with the idea of running an Easter Egg Hunt within some of the most popular Mozilla community sites (such as planet.mozilla.org, foxiewire.com, mozillalinks.org, etc…). It turned out to be quite popular and was a big success as a trial run for the larger aim of creating an activity that people could partake in during Firefox 3.5 launch parties. The only problem is that there were some people who got a little too addicted to the game and lost a lot of valuable sleeping time due to their need to find the hidden eggs. Bye Bye IE

I may be a die hard fan of all things open source however I do have an interest in certain Microsoft products mainly because some of them do have their advantages. One such a product I have been following the development of is Microsoft Windows 7. Now some of you may be aware of the issues Microsoft is having due to the very valid and needed point that the EU has brought up about them having supremacy over internet browser market share because MS IE is shipped with their Windows operating system. (see here for more information -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_Microsoft_antitrust_case). It now seems that this means for MS to ship Windows 7 in the EU at the same time as their global launch Windows 7 (in the EU) will ship without a browser at all!

I get this information from the following quote out of the latest TechNet newsletter (from Microsoft).

You may have seen in the news a few weeks back that, in order for Europe to get Windows 7 at the same time as the global launch on 22 October, Windows 7 will have to be shipped without Internet Explorer. So, when you buy a new computer, you will not have a browser as part of the operating system.

Now to me this is not the solution what they need to do is simply change the default first run page so that it comes up with a third party comparison of the major browsers and then links to each of them followed by a list of all the other browsers.

I may be wrong here but that seems to be a better solution seen as most people setup their internet connection as the first thing they do on their computer. By shipping their OS without one they make is so that it is near impossible for the un-tech-savy users of computers out there to even connect to the internet and even make a choice about which browser they want to use let alone what news site they want to read!

Microsoft. I have a message for you. Well done on F***ing up again. Now not only do you not truly conform to web standards but now you don’t even allow your less technologically advanced users access the internet. Well done indeed.

Layers – Musical Layers – AMAZING Musical Layers

The following videos are amazingly mind boggling! They will blow your head away.

DubFX (Ben Stanford), and Australian musician uses only 2 pieces of equipment . A looping station and… this is the best bit… his voice! While performing DubFX records each part of his song on the looping station making adjustments on the way. As you are about to hear… the result is just staggering.

Its been a long while

Well, maybe not a long while but it has been a while. Since my last post Mozilla Firefox 3.5 has been released and so, MozHunt has been launched as well! Unfortunately I write this post with only 2 days left of the hunt. Don’t worry though, if you do still want to take part there are several clues available on the site. So here is a round up of all that has happened since my last post!

College is over, for this academic year anyway. I am now the college radio station manager and so I have a lot more work to do next year (again academic).

Mozilla Firefox 3.5 was launched and at the same time a global phenomenon occurred and the entire planet felt a series of shock-waves as it approached. The planet nearly fell to pieces as it landed due to the HUGE super shock-wave that it caused.

At the same time as Mozilla Firefox 3.5 launching MozHunt started and made a splash. The winner of the game will be on the recieving end of some great Mozilla Swag and a MozHunt t-shirt.

I started work on the next version of MozHunt (ready for easter but still…) and I created a new badge for users of Mozillaca.

That is the quick and most important bits. Now that I am off college you can look forward to a lot more from me on this blog. Oh and hopefully some more graphics work!
