Not Tom Ellins

I know I have been introduced to the planet already, however I think that there is more to be said before I start posting properly.

First up is my name is not Tom Ellins :P it is in fact William D (just to confuse the issue). I am not William Q or William R either. I am glad to be here however among many others, some who share my first name and many who don’t.

I am sure some are asking why I am now on the planet, so I will explain in brief. William Quiviger is in part to blame. During the Mozilla Firefox 5 year party in London William asked me:

“Why are you not on planet?”

To which I responed:

“I’m not sure”

I then thought of some potential reasons, but on second thinking, I found that they were all completely irrelevant. This year I made it one of my resolutions to blog more, and so now is a good time for me to have made a request (with the idea gained from William) to be a citizen of the planet, and, you’ll never guess what… It actually happened!

So that is me, in short, and how I got here. I look forward to getting to know more of the community, and will ensure that all my posts are, well, interestingly written at the least.

#eumozcamp09 A Unique Round-Up

October 10th, 2009 by FuzzyFox with 4 Comments »

MozCamp PragueOkay so it is now about 1 week since MozCamp EU 2009, and, the first thing that comes to my mind about the event is “Did everyone who booked the 5am shuttle on the Monday get it okay?” Sad I know but… I did organize it and should it have all gone tits up the blame falls on me! I want to have left a good and lasting impression on the European Mozilla Community. So enough of my shortcomings. Lets get to my round-up of the event!

The event first started for me when I arrived at Ruzyne airport and I met up with 2 members of the Mozilla Community. I shared a taxi with them instead of using the free transport ticket, which, gave time to get to know them both a little better. That night dinner was found at a nice little pizza pallor where I got a pasta :P I can’t eat pizza at a pizza pallor. That would be insane! Read the rest of this entry »

Just for all those who follow this blog. As part of my A level course work I need to have a blog about my project and I thought…”why setup a new blog when I have one that works fine? Lets just add a category for all my project posts!” So here it is. The first post for my project. Telling others that I am blogging about my project :P enjoy!

MozCamp Prague 1 day to go!

October 1st, 2009 by FuzzyFox with No Comments »

Prague_mozcampWith just over a day to go MozCamp is now knocking on this front door. I am looking forward to the event, but, those who don’t get to come, do not fret. How amazingly and fantastically awesome could this event really be?

I’m sorry I know that was mean of me but this is a really big thing for me. It is not like you get invited to a conference of this scale when you are not part of a major company, and are only 17 years old. Well… I say my chance is 1 in about 7 billion, so it looks like I beat the odds there! That 7 billion came from the number of people on the planet by the way.

I intend to be going to the unofficial welcome drink and to the jetpack hackathon when I hope to learn a little more about the framework and maybe write a small audio player script.

So, a busy week ahead, and a lot of new blog posts all about the event, as it happens. Just keep your eye my Mozillaca account for the latest from me on the event.

The perfect twitter for a Mozilla Fan Boy!

August 11th, 2009 by FuzzyFox with No Comments »

MozillacaMozillaca (based on Laconica) is a free micro-blogging tool for those of us in the Mozilla community. Powered by a team of volunteers, this site allows not only an insight into the minds of Mozilla community members, but a select few Mozilla workers too!

Now for those of you that don’t know what micro-blogging is think of twitter. Twitter is one of the biggest micro-blogging tools there are. Don’t know about twitter? Then lets make this easy.

This is a blog. I can type as much as I want in each post, I can add images, videos, music… but this is not the case with micro-blogging. A micro-blog post can only have upto 140 characters (letters), no pictures, videos, music or anything else. It allows you to quickly share a site of interest, or what you are thinking off!

Mozillaca extends on this slightly by allowing you to add attachments relevant to each post you make, and it calls posts “mozes” (twitter calls them tweets).

So if you are a Mozilla fan boy (or girl) like me… then I don’t think I need to say much more other than meet you there!

Follow me on Mozillaca. I’m not that hard to miss :P
