I know I have been introduced to the planet already, however I think that there is more to be said before I start posting properly.
First up is my name is not Tom Ellins it is in fact William D (just to confuse the issue). I am not William Q or William R either. I am glad to be here however among many others, some who share my first name and many who don’t.
I am sure some are asking why I am now on the planet, so I will explain in brief. William Quiviger is in part to blame. During the Mozilla Firefox 5 year party in London William asked me:
“Why are you not on planet?”
To which I responed:
“I’m not sure”
I then thought of some potential reasons, but on second thinking, I found that they were all completely irrelevant. This year I made it one of my resolutions to blog more, and so now is a good time for me to have made a request (with the idea gained from William) to be a citizen of the planet, and, you’ll never guess what… It actually happened!
So that is me, in short, and how I got here. I look forward to getting to know more of the community, and will ensure that all my posts are, well, interestingly written at the least.
Mozillaca (based on Laconica) is a free micro-blogging tool for those of us in the Mozilla community. Powered by a team of volunteers, this site allows not only an insight into the minds of Mozilla community members, but a select few Mozilla workers too!
Now for those of you that don’t know what micro-blogging is think of twitter. Twitter is one of the biggest micro-blogging tools there are. Don’t know about twitter? Then lets make this easy.
This is a blog. I can type as much as I want in each post, I can add images, videos, music… but this is not the case with micro-blogging. A micro-blog post can only have upto 140 characters (letters), no pictures, videos, music or anything else. It allows you to quickly share a site of interest, or what you are thinking off!
Mozillaca extends on this slightly by allowing you to add attachments relevant to each post you make, and it calls posts “mozes” (twitter calls them tweets).
So if you are a Mozilla fan boy (or girl) like me… then I don’t think I need to say much more other than meet you there!
Okay so rather than reposting all my older postings from the internet that are dotted around the place I will only be summarizing them here and linking to their online locations. It may take you a little longer BUT it will take me less time AND it means that Google wont have a hissy fit with me for reposting a lot of content
